Neonode expands.
Upon the release of the updated N2 Swedish based Neonode's focus is now on other potential markets. The N2, the one phone the company offer, was launched in
|
|
2007 and sales figures, 31 000 sold during the third quarter and a successful launch in Germany now bids for expandation. For those of you unfamiliar with the phone it's a touch screen based on windows but with its new and very appreciated menu-system, "Neno" and it's now available in blue, red, pink and lime except traditional black, pricing around $ 500. For more info check out Neonodes homepage.

Even more rumours: A new LG Prada?
Although not yet confirmed by LG, Prada recently confirmed some of the details about the LG Prada "II". Apart from the physical face-lift rumours
|
|
also has it the follower would undergo a major technical transformation and this now also seems to be true. Apart from a keyboard, turbo 3G and W-lan it's also most likely to feature a 5 megapixel camera and what looks like a 3" display. As it features a keyboard it's also most likely to build on a smartphone software and some sources has mentioned a FM-radio but until we here something from the officials themselves I spose nothing is for certain. However here's an image of the "Prada II" and stay tuned for more!

New rumours about "iPhone-killer", Samsung i900.
It's Microsoft that finally confirms some details about the i900 but from Samsung it's still quiet. The keyboard on earlier models such as the i600 and the i780 is now gone in favour for a touch screen and the new Windows Mobile 6.1
|
|
enables interaction with software such as Excel and Word. Besides turbo-3G and W-lan it will also feature a 5 megapixel camera and FM-radio making sure to give the iPhone a tough fight. Pricing is yet unknown but expect release late spring.

The disposable mobile phone.
After the successful launch of single use phones on the American market manufacturer Hop-On now have decided to enter the European market. At this first stage a number of
|
|
10 000 phones will be released targeting for consumers such as kids, travellers or anyone else who would find a very basic, but disposable phone for US $25 a good deal. It completely lacks features such as display or built in memory.
|
950 000 Volt in your mobile!
Unfortunately this is not to power any extraordinary functions in your phone but to electrify your enemy. "The pretender", so far only available
|
|
in the US, is made for self-defense and when activated electricity is sent between the poles(as shown on the picture)and making a "sparkling" sound. Everything to scare off suspect enemies. It's priced around $70 and for more info check here.

CeBIT -Worlds largest IT-fair to start tomorrow.
Over 5 days over 6500 actors will participate in the IT-event of the year held in Hannover, Germany. Over 500 000 visitors are due
|
|
to vitness a huge cavalcade of fresh products to be launched and the organizers are expecting visitors from over 80 countries. Most interesting to us however is the "Home & Mobile Solutions" -section and the product (feature) in focus is already said to be the GPS. Welcome back for updates!
|
Never again miss "that call".
Bluetooth have certainly opened up for a huge range of side-products to your phone and latest is this bracelet, or "BluAlert" -wristband as the manufacturer wishes to call it. What it does is
|
|
vibrating when you get a call but also when the devices(bracelet and the phone) are more then 15 feet(~5 meter) away from each other, a more useful function to me then the basic one actually. However it's based on Bluetooth version 1.2 but is also compatible with earlier ones. The re-chargable battery is fully loaded for 100 hour use after only 3 hours and I spose the design is ok. Prices start at $ 60 and for more info you can go to Boysstuff.

Samsung challenge Nokia with new G810.
After the announcement of Nokia:s N95 Samsung's next with the G810. Both based on the Symbian S60 platform and sliders the similarities don't stop there, the 5 megapixel camera
|
|
and the design are strikingly similar. You might think this is the follow-up of the G800 but this is not the case, the G810 is a smartphone, not a Java phone, and besides the 2.6" screen(240x320 pixels) it's compatible with most format's(audio/digital-TV) and Turbo 3G is supported as well, of course. Prices start at $860, slightly cheaper the the N95($ 1000) and will be available during the 2:nd quarter.
|
2.8" screen and 16 GB:s in the follow up of Nokia's N95, the N96!
And these are just a few of the new functions in N96 or what do you say about a 5 megapixel camera, digital TV or the support of geotagging which automatic
|
|
stores and shows the locations of your pictures on sites like flickr? Quite impressive to me and the GPS soft, Nokia Maps(2.0) also comes with a new function for "walk-navigation" a handy feature if you live in the big city or just is "normally lost". The system, Symbian 60 series open up for a lot of other applications and the design, well to me it's phenomenal! So when is this beauty on the market then? Q2 officials say and starting price is somewhere near the $ 1000 -line.

Glofiish V900, TV-compatible wherever you are!
Developed by E-Ten it will be shown at the 3GSM World event in Barcelona next week and expectations are high! The GPS, wifi compability and turbo 3G make it the super-
|
|
phone it is but what make it really stand out is it's TV-functions making it compatible with most broadcasting-net's around the world, dvb-T, dvb-H, TDMB, and DAB broadcasting and of course it's all digital TV we're talking about. With it's format and internet compability's this is a smartphone/pocket pc and a great competitor to the Treo and the blueberry phones amongst others but we can't anything but guess the outcome before its release this third quarter, stay tuned!

Liquid, the new way to power your phone if NEC will have their say.
Yup, and it's not all speculations cause the phone, the NEC Flask will be released sometime this year officials say. Driven by a
|
|
liquid fuel cell it will pioneer the market as we know it and it's not yet known what the actual "liquid" is but it's most likely some sort of methanol. Instead of charging the battery you will have to top it up when the levels are low so I spose a whole new of liquid containers will pop up. No further details have been released yet but the display is a touch-screen and talking about release, it's most likely to go on the Japanese market at first and depending on the success over there maby hit the markets elsewhere. Neat colors anyways.
|
Nokia follows the latest trend.
One explanation for the success of Nokia are their market share in developing nation so maby it's wrong to say that "Nokia follows" as they actually should be considered the "trendsetter" in this case. After numberous of budget-phones other manufacturers such as latest Motorola with their F3 followed up this trend and now Nokia's repsonse, the
|
|
2600 Classic and the 1209 has been announced. Best overall value brings the Nokia 2600 with extra's such as a VGA-camera and FM-radio(compare with the F3 where you virtually get nthing besides a phone, hardly even a display) for a hundred bucks while the 1209 takes the price as the cheapest at the price of US $50 but the you have to be satisified with no camera and no radio. In both phones however is the tft-screen and the familiar nokia menu-system's and that's much more then most competitors can offer. The 1209 will mainly be sold in developing nations however but the 2600 will also be available elsewhere! Expect release this quarter.

Apple forbid iPhone sales-figures to be released in Britain.
Due to the restrictions several British finance magazines have made their own research amongst the resellers and the results are clear:
|
|
iPhone sales in Britain is a fiasko! However this is not the official numbers so nothing is for certain but regardless Apple experienced another setback last tuesday when Steve Jobs had his presentation at MacWorld. No 3G phone was announced as most have us have thought and instantly the share fell 5% on the stockmarket, let's hope they have some other surprise on store for us, at least for their own sake!

W760, Sony-Ericssons first with built-in GPS.
The new slider, introduced at the CES fair is the latest phone in the Walkman series and expected to be released during the second quarter this year on "selected markets", most likely Europe, NA and parts of Asia. Unique about this
|
|
phone is as mentioned the GPS, previously only available through a transmitter and the soft is delivered by Wayfinder. Available with "extra's" such as "ShakeMe" and the latest function, "SenseMe", said to choose music after your mood this is (as mentioned earlier)also a full fledged Walkman unit and included is also a 1 Gb memory card(Memory Stick Micro™ M2™). The camera, a 3.2 megapixel makes the phone a serious competitor to other top-phones on the market and so does the 2.2 inch screen although my personal opinion is you should be able to ask for more in terms of the design...

Rumours about Nokia on the Las Vegas CES-Fair.
It's two new phones from the E-series that's expected to be announced by Nokia on the opening of the yearly Las Vegas CES-fair this sunday. As the E-series is developed for corporate clients the phones will be loaded
|
|
with functions. The expected E71 for example, follow-up of the E61i, will include most luxurys you get in Sony Ericssons top model, the P1 such as turbo 3G and a full keyboard and it will also be much smaller then its precursor(57x112x110 mm). The other phone, E66 and follow up of the E65 will have similar specifications but not a full keyboard. Both phones will have a 3 megapixel camera but again, nothing is for certain, we'll know tomorrow!(Pictured is the current E65)
|
Forget megapixels, I3A sets a new standard.
How many megapixels you have doesn't necessarily say that much about your camera. This is one of the arguments mobile phone organisation I3A mentioned the other day when they announced their development of a new camera standard. Members of I3A is already Motorola, Nokia and Sony Ericsson and
|
|
they will together with 22 other enterprises participate in the process. Work has already begun but the time-frame of the project is uncertain at the moment, check back for updates!
|
Motorola F3 (Motofone), as cheap as it get.
At least if you also ask for quality and not are willing to spend more then 40 bucks. Ok, there is no camera, no music-player and the screen(an EPD-diplay), well it's really one of a kind displaying numbers and letters
|
|
as you might be used to on your calculator but once again, for less then 40 bucks, what can you ask for? It's quite obvious, especially when browsing the very instructive and simple-to-use menu's this phone is developed mainly for developing countries and people who haven't yet had their first mobile phone. Having this in mind I must say Motorola succeeds.

Nokia goes green(and healty!).
Cause what Nokia is promising for its new release of the "Eco-" concept at the CES Las Vegas fair asks for a lot of expectations. Cut in to two, the phone is dominated by the huge
|
|
screen and the other part, a measuring device carried around your wrist or neck, collaborate in returning you your health-status or the local weather! The name, "Eco", comes from the energy-reduction this phone is said to have and some parts is driven by solar-panels(!) Check back for news in January!

Motorola Z8, a smart, smart-phone without touch-screen?
What really make this phone stand-out against other smartphones is the software, UIQ. Previously limited to touch-screen phones only UIQ now is first-out on the Z8, or Motorola RiZR Z8 and as you might already have figuered out, no, this is
|
|
a touch-screen phone. Challenging the biggest fears I had about this fact I first download some softwares: a word processing program and a few games but although some functions lack behind I'm mostly satisfied with most of the integration. Excel, word and powerpoint files is easy to handle but a few games is almost impossible to navigate. The pre-installed web-browser, opera makes it easy to surf also bigger sites and overall I'm impressed by the functions of this phone. It comes with 3G, edge and of course GSM and the VGA(2 megapixel) camera is acceptable. The 2.2 inch screen is bright and clear with a resolution of 240x320 pixels and 1.6 million colours and the pricing is more then fair comparing with similar phones, be prepared to pay ~ $700 for the phone unlocked.(compare with over $1000 for Sony-Ericssons P1 upon release)

Chinese iPhone-clone.
For some of us the wait have been long as the iPhone still only is for sale in a few countries so for us the solution is simple: Look to the east, or China to bee precise. Meizu M8 is almost identical
|
|
with the iphone and the new version, released next spring, have even been updated with the new IPod Touch look! The new M8(pictured) will also include the enlarged screen, now 3.4" and that to a lower price then the previous "non-touch" looking one or what do you say about $300 for the 4 GB version or slightly more then $400 for the 16 GB:er? Ironically it's almost exactly half of what you pay for the original, question is how much originality is worth? More info on the Meizu Me fan-forums.

Success for the iPhone in Europe.
The lines where very long outside the selected stores in Germany and the UK when the iPhone was released in Europe this friday. Choosen for the task where only Brittish operator O2 in Britain and T-mobile in Germany but regardless of their monopoly
|
|
Apple predicts the iPhone to achieve similar success amongst European customers as for their American peers. Prices is tagged £ 269($600) in Britain and in Germany very close by and in addition to that comes a monthly subscription at roughly $75. As for the rest of Europe some countries might be left out because of well developed 3G-nets as the iPhone s a GSM(GPRS) phone only. France and Poland amongst others are up next however and in 2008 it's time for Asia to join the fever.
|
First out in Nokias new music-series: the 5310 Xpress Music.
OK, it's cheap, less then $400 but branded a "express music" phone certainly brings some expectations. The head-phones is alright, not what you get with more expensive nokia phones but alright and you do get the 2 GB memorycard but apart from that
|
|
it's nothing new. The menus look like on any 40-series phone but that being said it does work, pretty good actually and for the price I spose it's good value. The 2 megapixelcamera is working very well and it's small in size, 103,8 × 44,7 × 9,9 mm and 71 gr(2.5 oz) only so if it's something simple you're looking for this might just as well be the phone for you. Available now.

Choose phone by the charger? Hmm...
...well, at least that's Samsungs new niche to attract people. Included with the charger, a "Zaku Commander helmet", is however the Samsung 913 SH. Shown at the Ceatec-fair
|
|
it got alot of attention but (un)fortunately it's only available in Japan. Labeled by Samsung as a "full face model", whatever that now means, it's equiped with quite a few great features such as the 3 inch widescreen QVGA display and great browser-compability. Prices on the japanese market varies.

Recycle your mobile phone?
Over the last three years 25 million mobile phones have been purchased in Sweden, that in a country of 9 million people. That and,
|
|
the fact less then a fifth of all these phones have gone into recycling made "Miljöpartiet"(the environment party) in Sweden make their last proposal, re-fund on your mobile. Jan-Olof Eriksson, MD at Swedens leading disposal service, "Avfall Sverige" supports the proposal an says "Mobile phones migh clear the road for recycling of other products such as calculators and memory-cards." As for myself I must say the idea is genius!
|
After X830 Samsung announce F200.
A 1.46 inch screen ain't much to compete with but fortunately that's not the case, Samsung instead tries to make it into the world of mobile music and what matters there is design and function, something Samsung
|
|
brought together very successfully in its forerunners. Minimalism is the keyword in also this phone, the Samsung F200, and the dimensions of 89x32x19 mm, 76 grams(2.6 Oz) will make it one of the smaller triband phones on the market. However this is on expense of the built-in memory, only 5 MB, but on the otherhand there is of course a memory-slot(SD) and I spose Samsung reason most music consumers buys an extra card anyways. RDS Radio, Bluetooth and support for various file-format's such as MP3/AAC/AAC+/e-AAC+/WMA makes the phone very compatible. It's released globally during this quarter, Q3 and prices start around US $200, fairly attractive I must say!

Sony Ericsson challenge with a 5 megapixel camera in new K850.
"Function before design" summarize pretty well the idea behind the new Sony Ericsson K850. The phone isn't ugly, no it's elegant with clever detailing and a shiny black surface but you can't say it stand out through the design, it stands out with its functions. The new navigation system, turbo 3G and
|
|
of course the camera set a new standrad for other competitors to follow. About the new navigation(the Joystick skipped in favour for a key/touch-screen system): it could be better and considering it's a high-range phone maby it could have been tried out on a cheaper model first cause allot of the, before, carefully developed and successful benefits of Ericsson navigation is gone. The camera however is a true victory, one of the best I've tried and small features like the sensor which detect, and lie down, the screen content if you hold the phone in "camera position" contribute to a great photo experience. That and great pictures of course, indoors as well as outdoors. The specification reads as follows: A 2.2" tft-screen, 3G and hsdpa, a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash and the size: 102 x 48 x 17 mm, weight 118 gr(4.2 oz). Release: This month and prices around US $700.

New HTC Touch Dual, the most likely iPhone competitor?
Aside from one of the markets best touch-screen system, "Touchflo" also in the previous model, a complete keyboard and high-speed 3G now is standard. Comparing to the iPhones 3.5 inch display Taiwanese HTC's
|
|
2.6"(QVGA flat touch screen) is surely smaller but so is the price-tag, especially throughout Europe where a iPhone will cost you abow US $1000 and that's also where HTC expects to dominate the market. The "Dual will cost you around half that price(~$600) but it's not only about the screen size and the price-tag however, the precursor sold very well and was very appreciated for its reliablity and
performance and the new keyboard(a 20 key QWERTY one) sure make it stand-out against the iPhone and this without obtaining giant weight/size dimensions. At 120 grams(4.2ounces), 107 x 55 x 16 mm it's actually smaller then the Iphone in everything except thickness(iPhone 11.6 mm).Other goodies is the 400 MHz Qualcomm processor(a rumour and still to be confirmed) and the 3 megapixelcamera. Already released in Japan, Europe now is next so if you happen to live in the UK, Poland, France Romania or Switzerland it will be released this month as a signature device for operator "Orange". As the precursor "HTC touch" was released in North and South America as well also this one is most likely to become available soon. Note: it's also available in silver this time.

Nokia's New.
Proceeding the E50, the Nokia E51 is one big upgrade in the companys W-Lan serie. The new "Symbian serie 60 3rd edition" along
|
|
with a 3G, a 2 megapixel camera and(of course) W-Lan makes it top of the top. The dimensions is small as well, 115x47x12 mm and a ewight of a 100 grams make it one of the smaller of its class. You can open office documents and it's compatible with chat-services such as MSN Messanger and Yahoo and of course you can also dial up with IP. Prices start around $600 and it's available now.

LG impress us with the new KU-990.
Introduced at the Berlin IFA fair the otherweek LG's new high range model, the LG KU-990 instantly was sold out in many stores throughout Europe. Most remarkable about this
|
|
phone is the camera, a 5.1 megapixel with autofocus and Schneider-Kreuznach lens technique making it into the créme de la créme of camera-phones. A side from still pictures the video camera can handle 120 screens a sekund and there to show it the 3 inch touch-screen. Price set around US $500.

GPS use expected to boom.
With models such as Nokias N95 analysis company Berg Insight predicts the number of GPS users to reach 43 million by the year of 2012, a growth with more then five times. "Record sales
|
|
of car-navigators in Europe and The United States have made people aware of the use of GPS and now the big actors on the mobile phone market competes about delivering the same services to pedestrians, travelers and commuters." Says André Malm in a press release. The company also predicts most of these new services will be financed by advertisers.

Turbo 3G at 7,2 megabit per second from HP.
Hewlett Packard Ipac 914 and 614 are the new 3G phones but they won't come cheap, expect to pay at least $700. On the otherhand
|
|
you get a phone capable of speeds up to 7.2 megabits and GPS. Both are equipped with "Google Maps" but the HP 914 feature a 3 megapixel camera and a keyboard. The 614 is run by Windows Mobile 6 Professional and therefore also include a touch-screen but both are similar in size. The choice is up to you!

After Walkman, now the playstation phone!
After Nokias relaunch of the N-Gage and the introduction of the entertainment packed iPhone now Sony Ericsson takes up the competition with a Playstation phone. However officials deny saying they never comment on future products but in an
|
|
interview the company's Peter Ahnegård confirms the rumours and declares "a phone of such kind are in the advanced stage of planning." After Sony Ericssons successful use of Sonys "Walkman" and "cybershot" labels a "playstation" branded phone seems pretty natural to me, question is when?

Your personal trainer: In your pocket.
Frankly it's probably there or in my basement storage I would like to
put him if I had one so I guess the idea is pretty neat. Workout
features in your phone is nothing new however but what few know is how |
|
advanced
some of these features have become."I used to keep track on my
training through my computer but now I use my phone to count how long
and how often I walk or run" says Anders Strom from Gothenburg, Sweden,
who try to loose some weight with his Nokia N95 and he's not the only
one. Nokia was actually one of the first to include these features with
the software of the 5500-series but now most phone manufacturers of any
decency have at least one or two models. Ericsson W710i is one of the
more popular and rumours says Samsung is working on one together with
adidas. The W710i features a step-counter, lap-times and a beep-signal
if you're slowing down and the new Samsung phone is said to include a
heartbeat counter. Many "normal" mobile phones have some of these tools
as well, you just have to find that motivation to browse the menu to
find them;)
|
Finally something new: a fingerprint
reader for your phone!
But it won't come for free, "P´9521" is developed by Porsche
and Korean Sagem Communications and will most likely cost you abow
$150. For that you'll get a phone cut out from one piece of aluminium,
a touch-screen with non-scratch mineral glass and the fingerprint
reader sparing you "another number to memorize" |
|
by
replacing the PIN. Besides the "extras" a 3.2 megapixel camera is
included, 3G and a bluetooth headset with remote control or wait, maby
that's more of an "extra" as well. As one could expect however the
phone is loaded with luxury and I have to say, regardless of the price,
that this phone looks like it might become the best luxury model since
the Nokia Vertu, at least on the paper. As mentioned no pricing has
been set yet but doing a little "googling" it's most likely abow $150
and with risk of having to dissapoint a few, it won't be available in
the US, Japan or even in Korea, developer Sagems home country, for some
reason.

From jeans to mobile phones...
...the step isn't very big nowadays and there to show us why is Levi's.
I hope. Together with the people behind the |
|
Hummer
phone, French Modelabs, Levi's is expected to release the phone
in selected stores throughout Europe in September. For releases
elsewhere as well as the technical features the company's press release
didn't reveal much but the regular "media-center" and
"lifestyle"-nonsense but one thing worth to note is the accompanying
key chain keeping your phone in place, only with the right brand of
jeans of course.

New Cybershot from Sony Ericsson.
It's the photo-features that will stand-out on this new 3G model named
K770. A 3.2 megapixel camera with a built in photo-editing program,
"Photo fix" makes it possible to |
|
edit your pictures as you
go, right in the phone. Auto-focus, a powerful photo light are also
there to assist and according to the manufacturer the camera will have
capacity to make pictures printable in A4 sizes. As for the design,
it's similar to the previous Sony Ericsson Cybershot models: discreet,
elegant lines and very slim, this one only 14.5 mm. No pricing set yet
but it will be available next quarter and it comes in two different
colors: truffle brown or purple.
|
Two new design phones from Nokia.
With Nokia 7500, 7900, the company introduce its new serie "Prism". Not
very surprising, the dress code is light, many different kinds of light
and as for the Nokia 7900 Prism the keypad can be set into 49 different
color-schemes. Besides that a notable feature |
|
is
the "prism-like" sharp lines and edges. The 7900 is the 3G-phone of
the two and the more expensive one and it also comes with a OLED screen
instead of the more common and energi demanding LCD screen. Both will
be available in stores during the third quarter this year, 7500 for
$350 and the 7900 for around $650.

45 words a minute: New SMS technology
makes it possible.
Scientist Per Ola Kristensson at the Cambridge university that
developed the new technology. The use of the touch-screen has increased
every year, but instead of storing, and identifying, the pen-strokes as
phone's do today the new technology will remember what's in between the
letters. Per Ola says -"the
|
|
nice
thing is you don't have to be exact in your typing, the technology
remember how you write and ignore un-identified strokes." At this
moment the "big sharks" is fighting over the technolgy but Per Ola, the
scientist who own the patent, have made sure he won't let it go very
easy...

Armani, the next fashion house to
enter the market?
After LG's success with the Prada phone rumours now say Samsung will
collaborate with Armani on a new phone. The cooperation won't stop
there |
however, a whole new product-line will be developed and considering
it's Samsung we're dealing with that could cover anything from a Armani
microwave to a Armani dust-cleaner. The phone however is expected to be
released this winter but no more info on this is available at the
moment but make sure to check back for updates.

New trendsetter from unknown Korean?
With a feminine touch and a new way to fold Sky IM-U200 is one of the
most inspiring phones on the market today. At first, it looks like a
folder but actually, it opens more like a slider, you got to see for
yourself! However the bad specs |
leaves
much to ask for: a 1.3 megapixel camera, bad resolution display and low
built-in memory is not very competitive for a phone its range($550 in
Korea). Bluetooth is included however and so is a headset, US and
European release early September, question is if the almost bancrupt
company still is...

Men, not women, talks most in the
phone.
According to a a recent British report the popular prejudice isn't
true. The studie performed by Nectar shows minutes talked on the phone
have increased for men but been lowered for women during the latest
years. Men average 32 min per day while women |

is satisfied with 26. However it's still to early to crown men big-time
users cause the study also shows women are more active messaging then
men. Most popular subjects to talk about was, not very surprisingly,
sports for men and fashion and men among women.

Sirocco was tagged around $2000 once it set out but however no pricing
has been mentioned yet. Nor has any of the phones features but
Samsung's P310 gives a good hint of what to expect which would include
at least 80 mb built in memory expandable with with a microSD slot, a 2
megapixel camera, bluetooth(v 1.2?) and a 320x240 pixel TFT screen with
256 K Colours. Judging by pictures also weight and dimensions should be
comparable between the two(86 x 54 x 8.9/ 85g). Both phones also lack
3G and as a guideline the P310 sold for $700 when it was introduced and
today you can find one much cheaper. If you're not much for gold maybe
a more reasonable option?

A new iPhone already this year?
Before the iPhone hardly hit the shelves Apple filed a patent for
another "multifunctional handheld device" on July 5th which numerous
sources(including a JP Morgan report) confirm's is the new iPhone. |
The JP
Morgan report speculates of a new, cheaper iPhone, originated from a
Nano with pricing on no more then $300. At this point nothing is
confirmed by Apple official's but one thing is for certain: A follow up
will come and a cheaper alternative would pose a serious threat to
today's leading phone makers.

Seniofon -for seniors and the rest of
us forgetful.
Big is the word to describe this phone: big buttons, big type and,
well, loud signals. On the back is an attack-alarm. |
|
Already
introduced by it's manufacturer Emporia on CEBIT in 2006 it wasn't
however until recently the phone gained the global reputation it
deserves. It's amazing no one came up with this earlier but fortunately
someone did and Seniofone did it good. It's a genuine construction,
fairly priced at $350 and with a clever soft making menu navigation
very easy even for the least tech-oriented. The functions is very basic
of course, no media player, no camera but instead the phone features
some other very interesting things such as a flashlight and the
possibility to run it on AAA-batteries. Looking forward to a 3G
version!
Note: On some markets known as
"EmporiaLife".

RAZR gets a follow-up in RAZR2
Motorola's RAZR is one of the world's most bestselling mobile phones.
RAZR2 will come in three versions - V8, V9 and
V9m where the V9:s is 3G compatible. |
Besides
the (once)unique design this phone will additionally use the Crystal
Talk-technique which according to Motorola will improve the sound
quality of the calls. New is also another interesting function which
alllows you to send SMS even when the phone is off. All the versions
support web-browsing and HTML support and if you own one of the 3G
models you'll be able to surf in speeds up to 3,6 Mbps.

Go biking before you call.
Mobile phones in developing countries are getting much more common.
However some countries falls behind and the reason is bad electricity
supply, people can't simply charge there phones but things might be
about to change. |
Motorola has developed a charger that can be driven by a bike, just
like a old fashioned dynamo, introduction is expected this year.
|
From purses to mobile phones, LG
Prada sees the light.
Also known as LG KE850, this phone is developed from the South-Koreans
in collaboration with the Italian fashion house Prada. |
We have
seen it before, Motorola have had its share of "limited editions" and
Porsche have made its attempt into the market, however the LG phone is
different, KE850 is a completely new phone. It's the first mobile phone
with a fully covered touch-screen and comes with many unique features.
Only 12 mm thick it's the slimmest phone in the LG-line and besides the
usual features you can claim for of a phone of its
class(MP3/Media-player, 2 megapixel camera etc etc) the "fashionist"
can choose from a whole range of Prada accessories.
Fashion no or less, for about 750 dollars, a 1 GB memory card could
well be included.

Mobile Gaming -A kids thing? Think
again...
Only 15% of the games downloaded in the US are made by kids aged 13-17.
In relation, adults between the ages of 25-34 stand for 29%. |
The study, a monthly
tracking by the NDP Group, gives some explantion to why this
is though, "the main reason teens have not surpassed their adult
counterparts comes down to the numbers of mobile downloads and game
play: compared to adults, there simply are not as many teen cell phone
subscribers as there are adult subscribers." Regardless, 29% out of 29
million gamers(the total amount of mobile-device gamers)is quite a
massive amount of adult players, a group non-existant just a few decade
ago.

FlipStart -more function to your
mobile phone?
Well, actually it's more of a handheld but judging by it's size(5.9" x
4.5" x 1.35") and it's function as a regular cell-phone it's sure to
become a competitior in the segment. |
Bluetooth along with a 1.3 megapixel camera is standard but the main
features in this mini-PC lay's in it's hardware. A 1 GHz processor, 256
MB Ram and a 30 GB hard-drive give you the space to act as you normally
would do infront of your regular PC except from this one, you can
actually keep in your pocket! The unit is already for shipping and
prices around the $2000-line, the enhanced battery(increasing
battery-life from 2-6 hours)might also be a good investment!

Sony-Ericsson S500, a mobile disco?
Grabbing a S500 is like getting your hand struck by lightning. It's
flashing, flaming, vibrating - "the experience is what counts" says
representatives. S500 is an attempt to follow up the companies success
with w880i, especially popular amongst the youthfull clientel but this
phone lacks the 3G, a plus for some. |
Despite the hallucigenic effects battery time is good(370 H stand-by, 9
H talk) and as with the w880i it also comes with a 2 megapixel camera
and bluetooth supporting A2DP. The finish in Alu is also borrowed from
the w880i and the main difference between the two lay in S500:s slider
function, w880i:s 3G and the price, S500 sales for $300 whilst you have
to pay up almost the twice for the w880i. So if you're looking for a
medium-priced good ol' GSM phone and fancy the idea of a phone
switching its looks depending of the seasons or the time of the day the
S500 might be a good option to say, Nokia 6300.

For Sony-Ericsson the question is clear, it's a girl and her name is
"Lizzy". To me it seems like an Intel-like attempt of making something
"personal again" but regardless this might turn out to be one heck of a
phone. Maybe. |
Because although being one the most spoked-about phones and expected to
be released April 14, we don't know that much yet. It will however come
with a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, WiFi and a HUGE display(320
x 240 TFT). Rumour says HSDPA as well but rumour also says
Sony-Ericsson, the father, isn't happy about the name "Lizzy" and plans
to re-name his baby "Elena".

When the marketing strategists now finally have decided upon the name,
Samsung Upstage, they have certainly made sure no one will walk by
unnoticed. Released together with |
global communications company Sprint-Nextel this phone is already
getting heavy marketing and judging by the specs compared with the
price it's also most likely to become a new big-seller! For $149(with 2
year contract)you get 45 MB built-in memory along with a 64 MB microSD
card which is expandable to 2 GB. You get the new Battery-Wallet
feature which gives you up to 16 hours of music playback and you get
what Sprint calls "the dual-sided-form-factor" which makes great use of
both the sides of the phone with its two displays and layout of the
buttons.

Sony Ericsson extends its Walkman
series but are the features extended enough?
It's always nice to see fusions in the corporate world result not only
in financial winnings but also as an improvement of the actual line of
products. If this is the case with the Sony-Ericsson W580i is to early
to say but the Walkman series has sure turned out to be a success for
the company. So what's new to this phone? |
It will come in two colors,"style white", pictured in the image and
which creates a somewhat sporty look which has become something of the
W-series trademark color but the phone will also be available in "urban
grey" which adds a more exclusive touch to the phone and, as the
lifestyle-phone it's made to be, maybe can attract a wider range of
potential buyers. To make this happen, calorie and stepcounters are
there for the athletes, business card exchange functions for the
businessmen but in spite of Mega Bases™, Playnow's™
and musicDJ's™ for the music-lover in all its TM glory I miss
any real improvements, it all feels a little
outlined. The camera is still only a 2 megapixel as in w610 and w880i
and with bluetooth and GPRS now almost standard features in phones of
its class I'm not sure if this phone will become the sales-hit it could
have become. However, it sure looks nice and the ultra-sleek
design(only 14 mm thick) along with the included 512 mb memory stick
might compensate for some potential buyers out there. It's expected in
stores during Q3 but the price not yet set. For the sake of the
manufacturer let's hope it's not too high.

Nokia E90 Communicator
Also Nokia wants a piece of the business segment and introduces its
latest phone to the E series as a "mobile office". A 16 million color
display along with WLAN and HSDPA is there to, as officials say, "show
webpages as they are supposed to look". |
GPS and
the newly developed Nokia Map application are other goodies which makes
sure this phone is right on track and FM radio, music player and two
cameras(one on 3.2 megapixel and one for video conferances)attracts the
right clientel. The only downside I can see is the dimensions, 132 x 57
x 20 mm and a weight on 210 g isn't exactly light but question is if a
phone of this type could be much smaller with two displays of which one
800 x 352 pixels and without lowered battery capacity? However the
phone is expected to hit the market already during the second quarter
and price set around 750-800 Euros($1000), maybe a little expensive as
well?

Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC
Despite limited success with the Q1, Samsung presented its second phone
to the series as expected on the thursday of the Cebit exhibition.
Slightly smaller, 228 x 124 x 24 mm but with a larger screen and with
the touch screen replaced by a thumb operated system are some of the
more notable improvements. |
60 GB harddrive and the customized Windows Vista Home Premium edition
replacing the XP Tablet PC edition is also worth mentioning and
together with WiBro and Bluetooth -support creates a potentially full
fledge media hub. The processor is still from Intel, a 800 MHz
microprocessor. Most remarkable for this phone however is the extra's,
optional will be a fingerprint scanner and foremost you could choose
the 6 cell battery with capacity for 6.8 hours instead of 3.5. Prices
will range between 980 to 1500 Euros ($1300 - 2000) and will be
available in stores from May.

colors, 2 Megapixel camera, stereo speakers and Bluetooth. The triband

Samsung F700 to challenge iPhone
Despite what misgivings you have concerning Apple's iPhone, one thing
is certain. This phone has sparked off a race among other cellphone
manufacturers to come up with their own versions. |
Take Samsung's Ultra Smart F700 for example - it not only features a
full touchscreen display, but a QWERTY keypad as well in case people
cannot get used to sending text messages by merely touching. Additional
features include VibeTonz technology that let users feel the buttons
thanks to responsive vibrations. The F700 had better come with decent
battery life to accomodate the host of functions.

Samsung has been quiet in the first month of January as we didn't see
any new cell phone released from Samsung. |
However, stepping into February, Samsung is ready to pop out new cell
phones like crazy as what she did in year of 2006. The latest new
Samsung cell phone that is just released in China is the Samsung
SCH-F609 which is a mediocre CDMA cell phone that comes with
2.2” 262K 176 x 220 k TFT screen. Other features of F609 cell
phone includes a 1.3-MP digital camera with ISO settings, white balance
settings and etc, MP3 player, micro-SD expansion slot, GPS V2 support
and Bluetooth technology.
