The extra functionality comes from the fact that the device features two screens, one is a standard TFT colour screen and the other is a context sensitive touch screen display.
This allows the device to adapt to what is currently displayed on the screen, so if you were typing a text message it would show a QWERTY keyboard, but if for say you wanted to browse photo's, it could display thumbnails for easy selection.
The concept shows some real promise I think, the only trouble I believe is that a lot of users are accustomed to having some sort of tactile feedback when a button is pressed, having none will probably make it quite weird to type on.
No word on if this will be implemented in future Nokia products, but as Gizmodo speculated I wouldn't be surprised if you see it in an Apple product.
