According to Sony Eric, the P990i is more evolution than revolution , but in many ways, it represents the cutting-edge of smart phone technology. The P990i is a 3G phone with front and back cameras, and the rear camera is 2-megapixels in resolution with auto-focus.
The P990i is also Sony Ericsson's very first phone with Wi-Fi connectivity. In addition it has a QWERTY keypad, and an expandable internal memory of 80MB, in which a 64MB Memory Stick Pro Duo card slot is also included.
The P990i includes a variety of features such as Bluetooth, integrated e-mail, FM radio with RDS, full voice control, handwriting recognition, GPRS Internet, HSCSD hi-speed data, HTML browsing, Java MIDP 2.0, Symbian OS v9.1, and support for WAP 2.0 with added security.
The phone has built-in MMS messaging facility and comes equipped with MP3 sounds, movie clip viewer, MPEG4/MP3 player, Opera 8, Photo album, and PIM functions. Users can download music and video content and can view the same on the phones' high resolution screen - an amazing 240×320 pixels.
Additional features include a stylus for precision, a built-in business card scanner, a Quick Office software that allows users to read and edit Microsoft Office documents, and a Quick PDF that allows reading PDF documents.
Most probably, the P990i will be officially launched in India in approx three to four weeks' time, at an indicative price of Rs 38,000.
